DJ Niko, aka “the general”, has been a regular fixture in Cape Town’s Salsa scene for over 15 years , he was one of the first deejays to play Salsa in the mother city. Niko spins all tunes tropical …. Cumbia , Merengue , Boogaloo , Latin Jazz , Bachata , Reggaeton , but his big love and genre of specialty is SALSA!!
Salsa music and dance were introduced to Cape Town at the legendary “Bossa Nova” nightclub. “ Those days we used to have weekly Salsa dance classes followed by late night socials. Special parties were happening regularly , – Absolute Salsa – Casa Latina – Salsa vs. RnB – to name a few ”.
The first ever ongoing Salsa Sun-downers event in Cape Town started in 2003 at the Riviera restaurant in Camps Bay, few months later –Sunday Salsa Fuego @ Buena Vista Social Cafe– burst onto the scene. For over twelve years at BVSC, DJ Niko was dropping the tunes that transformed the venue to a local Salsa institution.
Niko is now based in Athens Greece .
