Danilo Paiz “Perseverando”

This Jazzy Salsa album with a Timba twist is autobiographical, bringing together all the artist’s musical influences from Caribbean and Latin American countries gathered from years of performing with legends.

In his extensive musical career, Danilo Paiz has played with extraordinary internationally known musicians such as Ray Barretto, Ruben Blades, Benny Velarde and his Super Combo, Andy Narell, Ray Obiedo, Dave Valentin, Dizzy Gillespie, and Cal Tjader. He demonstrates some of his best work on bongo and vocals on Ruben Blades’ CD, “Ruben Blades and Son del Solar, Live!” In addition to having released two albums of his own original Salsa music, he has recently performed with Mary Wilson of the Supremes and Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead.

From his experience of playing with such notable artists, Danilo chose only top-notch musicians when it came to putting together his own band, Orquesta Universal. Danilo and Orquesta Universal perform extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. His musicians have played with artists such as Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Ray Charles, Sheila E., Santana, Spearhead, The Temptations, Bernadette Peters, The Four Tops, and Pete Escovedo.

“I feel lucky knowing that I have such a strong foundation in jazz, Caribbean music, and at the same time was exposed to the great soneros such as Cheo Feliciano, Ruben Blades, Hector Lavoe, and Rafael de Jesus. I have taken these roots and have developed my own style of singing, composing and producing my music. I am a person who believes in the future and in the latest innovations (technological and other), and believe that Salsa and Latin Jazz should continue evolving, but we should not forget our roots.”

Edwin Perez “La Voz del Pueblo”

edwin-perez-la-voz-del-pueblo

After more than a decade of being the lead singer for La Excelencia and Orquesta SCC, Edwin Perez delivers his first solo album, La Voz Del Pueblo. Ten original tunes in the Salsa Dura style that characterized his music throughout his salsa career.

Think about a cross between the socially conscious lyrics of Ruben Blades and the hardcore sounds of Eddie Palmieri, or Ray Barretto with strong lyrical delivery much in the style of a Gilberto Santa Rosa or Ruben Blades. All tunes were arranged by Maestro Jorge Bringas whom also recorded the bass and directed the musician’s sessions.

This CD has the type of salsa music you want to get up and start dancing to right away but in a few seconds of dancing, you realize you also want to sit down and listen to the lyrics and the stories in them.

A salsa-lover’s oasis of flavorful high quality musicianship tunes, with the collaboration of salsa greats such as Gilberto “Pulpo” Colon Jr.on piano (former Hector Lavoe’s musical director), Luisito Quintero on all percussion (Oscar D’Leon, Spanish Harlem and many others), Jorge Bringas on bass ( Albita, Omara Portuondo, La Excelencia), Rey David Alejandre on trombones, piano and clave (Willie Colon, Richard Bona), Jonathan Powell on trumpets (Eddie Palmieri, La Excelencia), and Angel Rios/Ruben Milano on backup vocals. Don’t pass up on this one!
